Hootsuite Alternatives for Small Teams That Don't Need Enterprise Pricing

Written by the Sharevia team··3 min read

Hootsuite is one of the original social media management tools and still one of the most complete: publishing, social listening, competitor benchmarking, approvals, enterprise security. If you're a large marketing team, it earns its price.

If you're three people and a dog, you're probably paying for features you'll never open. Here are alternatives that cover what small teams need. Disclosure: Sharevia is ours.

Hootsuite in brief

As of October 2026, Hootsuite's plans start from $99 per user a month (Standard, up to 10 accounts) and $199 (Professional, unlimited accounts), billed yearly, with a 14-day trial. Enterprise is quote-based. Strengths include social listening, competitor benchmarking and team controls.

1. Buffer

Buffer is the simplest option: free for three channels, then $5 per channel a month (Essentials) or $10 (Team, unlimited users and approvals).

Good for: small teams who mainly need reliable scheduling.

2. Metricool

Metricool gives you scheduling, analytics, competitor tracking and reports from $25 a month billed monthly, with a free plan.

Good for: teams that need Hootsuite-style reporting at a fraction of the cost.

3. Later

Later focuses on visual planning and creator-friendly features, from $18.75 a month billed yearly.

Good for: Instagram- and TikTok-heavy brands.

4. Postiz

Postiz is open source, self-hostable, with hosted plans from $29 a month.

Good for: technical teams wanting full control.

5. Genviral

Genviral offers scheduling for many accounts plus AI content and team workspaces on Business ($99 a month).

Good for: small agencies managing many client accounts.

6. Sharevia

Sharevia (ours) is for teams whose bottleneck is content, not workflow. It generates AI influencer videos, slideshows and hook-and-demo videos for your brand, schedules them, and includes analytics and competitor research. From $25 a month, with team members on paid plans.

Good for: small teams that need to post more without hiring a content creator. Not a replacement for: Hootsuite's social listening and enterprise compliance.

What Hootsuite still does best

To be fair to Hootsuite, there are things the alternatives above don't fully replace:

  • Social listening. Tracking what people say about your brand and category across the web, with trend forecasting on Professional and long historical data on Enterprise.
  • Competitor benchmarking at scale, with up to 20 competitors on Professional.
  • Governance. Roles, permissions, approval chains and security features that larger organisations need.
  • One place for many teams. Regional teams, agencies and departments working in one system.

If those are daily needs, Hootsuite's price reflects real value.

What small teams actually use

Most small teams we talk to use a short list of features every week:

  1. Scheduling posts to three to five platforms.
  2. A calendar view to see the week.
  3. Basic analytics for each post.
  4. Occasionally, a monthly report.

Every alternative above covers those four. That's why switching often saves a lot of money without losing anything that matters.

How to estimate your real cost

Hootsuite prices per user, so the maths changes quickly as teams grow. A quick comparison for a three-person team posting to five platforms:

  • Hootsuite Standard: from $99 per user, so roughly $297 a month billed yearly.
  • Buffer Team: $10 per channel, so about $50 a month with unlimited users.
  • Metricool Starter: from $25 a month for up to five brands.

Your numbers will differ, but run them before renewing.

Switching checklist

  • List the features you used in the last month (be honest).
  • Confirm every platform you post to is supported, including TikTok and Instagram Reels.
  • Check whether you need approval workflows; not every cheaper tool has them.
  • Export reports you'll want to keep, since history may not transfer.
  • Run the new tool in parallel for a week before cancelling.

The honest take

Most small teams use maybe a fifth of Hootsuite. If social listening and enterprise approvals aren't daily needs, any of the tools above will save you money. If you're unsure, list the features you used last month, then pick the cheapest tool that has all of them. More options in Buffer alternatives and the best free schedulers.
